No numerus clausus (NC), which primarily takes school grades into account, is used as admission criterion, but a qualitative admission procedure is carried out: two interviews with experienced psychotherapists as well as a one-day group seminar are intended to enable the candidates to clarify their motivation and to convey the prerequisites for our study programme.
Methodological emphases are set by psychoanalysis or behavioural therapy after the first four general semesters; further school-specific emphases such as person-centred psychotherapy, systemic psychotherapy or Gestalt therapy are in preparation. We follow a pluralistic methodological model in our training, which enables us to “look over the fence” already in the Bachelor programme. Also read our press release on this topic (in German).

Prof. Dr. Georg Franzen, Head of the Department of Psychotherapy Science, on the programme:
Structure of the study programme
A1) Theory from basic sciences
A2) Theoretical concepts in psychotherapy
A3) Clinical concepts in psychotherapy
A5) Legal and social framework
B) Practice-related focal points
B1) On personality development:
B2) On the clinical application of psychotherapy – on the acquisition and testing of practical knowledge.
The acquisition of step-by-step practical knowledge forms another important part of the study programme. The practical part must be completed externally by the students in a health and social care institution.
For the specialisation “Psychotherapy”, this internship must be completed and reflected upon in a chosen psychotherapy method.
Guidelines for the external internship:
The selection of the facilities is based on the list for the psychotherapeutic propaedeutic course of the Federal Ministry of Health, or facilities of our cooperation partners are also available.
