The Faculty of Psychotherapy Science operates care facilities at four locations:
- Vienna Outpatient Clinic | Adults
- Vienna University Outpatient Clinic | Children & Adolescents
- Berlin Outpatient Clinic
- Linz Outpatient Clinic
- Ljubljana Outpatient Clinic
- Paris (temporarily closed, undergoing restructuring)
The university outpatient clinics primarily serve to provide psychotherapeutic care and as central training centres where students can gain their first supervised clinical experience with patients and clients. In addition to their teaching function, the outpatient clinics are increasingly being expanded into research infrastructures. Clinical projects offer a practical framework for students’ qualification work.
The CARE Board (Clinical Assessment, Research and Education) is the faculty commission responsible for managing the clinical care facilities of the Faculty of Psychotherapy Science. The tasks of the CARE Board include:
- Care: Quality-assured psychotherapeutic treatment in accordance with documentation standards, data protection, ethical guidelines and location-specific legal frameworks.
- Teaching: Practical training, curricular integration of clinical teaching formats and the involvement of students and doctoral candidates in care and care research.
- Research: Strategic planning and coordination of clinical research projects at teaching clinics in Vienna and other locations, including clinical studies, evaluation and training research.

As part of the course “Research Internship II” of the Faculty of Psychotherapy Science at Sigmund Freud University, the focus is on research into university outpatient clinics. Three outpatient clinic locations – the adult outpatient clinics in Vienna and Linz and the paediatric and adolescent outpatient clinic in Vienna – were researched by the students.
