Collaborations in Psychotherapy Science

The International Office at SFU Berlin promotes the internationalisation of students and staff and acts as the coordinating service centre for existing and new university partnerships, international relations and the planning of semesters and work placements abroad. We see ourselves as a point of contact for international students, visiting academics, universities and other organisations, as well as for students and lecturers at SFU Berlin who are interested in spending time abroad.

Studying at SFU branches in Europe – Outgoing student mobility

The SFU sees itself as a European university and established its first branch in Paris as early as 2006; this was followed by further branches in Ljubljana and Berlin, and subsequently in Milan and Linz. Psychotherapy and psychology are taught at all these branches – in the respective national languages and with their own distinct cultural nuances – yet as a single, unified curriculum. Students at SFU Berlin have the opportunity to spend a semester studying at one of the branches of the Sigmund Freud Private University. For the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Psychology and Psychotherapy, the SFU’s main campus in Vienna is particularly well-suited. Students have the opportunity to undertake their placement at one of the SFU Vienna’s psychology or psychotherapy outpatient clinics. It is also generally possible to spend a semester abroad at SFU Paris, SFU Ljubljana or SFU Milan. However, students should expect their studies to be extended as a result. Very good language skills in the respective host country are a prerequisite.
In addition, the SFU Vienna offers both an English-language programme in Psychology and one in Psychotherapy Science. Every summer, the SFUs in Berlin, Vienna, Linz, Paris and Ljubljana take turns to offer a Summer School in Psychotherapy Science; ECTS credits earned can be transferred towards the standard curriculum in Psychotherapy Science at the SFU Berlin.

Postgraduate Master’s Programme in Cultural Relations and Migration

The one-year Master’s programme in Cultural Relations and Migration is aimed at anyone working in the social, psychological, cultural and educational sectors at national and international level.
The languages of instruction are German and English.

The Erasmus+ Charter (ECHE) 2021–27 is a framework agreement that links all universities across Europe for the purposes of mobility and research programmes. It is therefore most gratifying that the European Commission has awarded the ECHE to SFU for the new programme period as well – which is, of course, good news for students who can gain valuable international experience through mobility for study or work placement purposes at other European universities or institutions. Studying abroad in Europe with Erasmus+

Would you like to spend a semester of your degree at a university in another European country? Students on the Bachelor’s degree programme in Psychology and the Master’s programme in Clinical Psychology who wish to study abroad in Europe as part of the Erasmus+ programme can apply for an Erasmus+ grant funded by the European Commission, in addition to securing a place at one of our partner universities. The monthly grant amount is tiered according to country groups and varies from year to year. Students must have completed at least one academic year by the start of their studies abroad and must have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction in the host country (at the time of application).

Direct exchange at our partner university, Zurich University of Applied Sciences

Zurich University of Applied Sciences is a multidisciplinary university of applied sciences in the canton of Zurich. With currently around 12,000 students, it is the third-largest university in the canton of Zurich. Among other programmes, it offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Applied Psychology. Students at SFU Berlin enrolled on the Bachelor’s programme in Psychology and the Master’s programme in Clinical Psychology can spend a semester studying at ZHAW Zurich as part of a direct exchange.

As a free-mover at a university anywhere in the world

You can also go to a university abroad as a so-called free-mover, independently of our partner universities and the Erasmus programme. In this case, you are responsible for organising your stay abroad yourself and can choose the destination country and the host university yourself.
